Individual counseling can also help you identify how the unique synergy between your personal strengths and frustrating growth edges can be mobilized to become best version of yourself.

I am here to help you become the best version of yourself. We’ll work together to elevate our understanding of you are, what you want, and what gets in the way of you living the life you desire. I’ll work with you to develop and implement strategies that help you reach your life goals.

Individual counseling will focus on you and your particular wants and needs. We will work collaboratively with you to identify your personal goals and the growth areas that matter most to you and why. We will caringly explore where you feel stuck and what difficulties you feel least equipped to overcome. We won’t shy away from the hard stuff and will celebrate the small stuff—because even small changes make a big difference!

I practice a non-pathological and holistic approach to therapy—namely that our physiological, cognitive, emotional, relational, and spiritual experiences are all excellent sources of information about our current state and well-being (and future directions for growth). We ignore our mind-body connection at our own peril. If you don’t pay attention to your body, your body will eventually force you to pay attention to it.

How we perceive our own worth is often at the heart of depression, anxiety, or many relationship issues—when we feel shame, self-loathing, or struggle to accept our imperfections compassionately, this can lead to unhelpful defensiveness, withdrawal, or self-destructive behaviors. For many people, their initial coping mechanisms were helpful (and important!) at one point in time…but eventually these old coping strategies can become more problematic than the original sources of distress.  I can help you explore the way you view yourself and how this might shape the ways you cope with distress.

We will discover what might need to change first, identify ways to catch yourself from falling into these old, destructive patterns, and find creative ways to break cycles that no longer benefit you. In doing so, we will reconnect with your passions, your inner strength, and unlock the motivation and courage you need to chase your dreams.

How does Individual Counseling work?

Individual counseling is a journey you take with your therapist that is all your own. Because individual therapy with Bryan will look different for everyone, your counseling will have its own unique plan determined by your unique needs. The challenges you want to resolve and the goals you are wanting to reach will determine how frequently we meet—and for how long.

What to Expect

Individual therapy helps you better understand yourself and how better to meet your emotional, relational, and psychological needs. If you are feeling unfulfilled or stuck, individual therapy will help you understand ways to increase healthy connections with others, empower you to make decisions that are in line with your values and goals, and develop a sense of ownership and competency in your life that provides you meaning. Through this process of self-reflection and deepening your understanding of who you are and what you want, I will walk with you to supportively empower you to courageously step out of your comfort zone and into a space of growth and healing.

You don’t have to tackle these issues on your own or feel stuck in pain or self-doubt. We will work together to develop strategies that give you a blueprint to help achieve your life’s goals, manage stressors, and experience yourself and the world in a more fulfilling way.
